Student Entrepreneur – Farming and Retail Management

Overview:

Join our dynamic team at STEMS Wayland at Lee’s Farm, where student entrepreneurs are provided with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both farming and retail management. As a Student Entrepreneur, you will be involved in various aspects of the farm-to-bouquet process, learning from cultivation to design and sales. This role offers a comprehensive experience complemented by mentorship from an advisory team of seasoned professionals in fields such as farming, marketing/public relations, finance, and accounting.

Responsibilities:

Farming and Cultivation:

  • Participate in the entire farming cycle, from planting bulbs/tubers to harvesting crops.
  • Learn and apply best practices in sustainable and efficient farming methods.
  • Collaborate with the farm team to ensure the health and quality of the seasonal crops.

Design and Sales:

  • Develop skills in floral design, arranging bouquets, and creating aesthetically pleasing products for retail.
  • Engage in the sales process, assisting customers at Lee’s Farm Stand and providing exceptional service.
  • Contribute creative ideas for product displays and promotions.

Retail Management:

  • Assist in managing day-to-day operations at Lee’s Farm Stand on Rt. 20.
  • Handle customer inquiries, transactions, and ensure a welcoming and organized retail space.
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain inventory levels and address restocking needs.

Learning and Development:

  • Attend regular training sessions to deepen knowledge of flower farming, retail management, and related areas.
  • Benefit from mentorship provided by an advisory team of experienced professionals.
  • Actively participate in team meetings to discuss challenges, successes, and collaborative strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for sustainable farming, floral design, and retail management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and a positive attitude towards challenges.

Schedule:

This is a part-time, seasonal position with flexible hours, aligned with the demands of the farming and retail season. Availability during weekends and peak retail hours is required.
